About Us
We’re a team of HR, IT & Legal experts
who work in tight synchronization
to facilitate involuntary terminations
with precision, discretion, and care.
Ending employment is not an isolated HR task. It is a human experience that happens in the space of a few minutes and it requires careful preparation to manage risk, and to avoid financial, reputational, and legal consequences.
Employee terminations are one of the most difficult and risky tasks a business is faced with. Poorly handled terminations can lead to legal disputes or reputational damage, even when the proper steps are taken.
After many years of working in-house to design, improve, and carry out hundreds of termination and offboarding transactions, we know about the risk, cost, and headaches that result when it doesn’t go well.
Secure Departures aims to fill the gap for businesses who may not have this support in-house or who want short-term, on-demand experts to handle this for them. Our approach stems from our belief that people should be treated just as good on the way out as they are on the way in, and that proper documentation and preparation is essential to mitigate risk and ensure your data is secure.
We’re done with the
traditional model.
Secure Departures was founded with the purpose of bringing all the key players to the table. We do this work to provide an experience that mitigates risk, secures your data, and is respectful to the departing employee.

Some terminations can put your internal HR into an emotional tug-of-war. It’s not that they are incapable of conducting a termination, but optics wise, and to preserve a relationship, sometimes it’s better if a qualified, neutral third-party can come in and handle the termination meeting. We add short-term, specific support and then we’re out.

In our experience, when digital activity needs to be reviewed beforehand or complex and high-risk user behaviour needs to be addressed, this is often out of scope, or beyond the capability of your standard Tier 1 Helpdesk or MSP provider.
Many organizations assume their internal or managed IT provider can fully address security concerns during involuntary terminations. While they’re crucial for system maintenance and technical support, they lack the precision, timing, human context, and legal sensitivity needed to manage high-risk employee exits effectively.
Secure Departures doesn’t replace internal IT or managed service providers; instead, we offer specialized expertise in involuntary terminations. This expertise is provided through the orchestration of coordinated actions in the business computing environment, precisely timed to align with the moment HR initiates the termination meeting.

Our team is augmented with an Employment Lawyer who is licensed to practice in most of the provinces and territories in Canada, however, we work for Employment Lawyers whose clients lack in-house HR or IT expertise to facilitate an involuntary termination meeting. How many times have your clients asked if you’d “just do the termination for them?”. We’re here to act on your instructions, provide your documents, and take care of the ‘day-of’ logistics that fall to careful orchestration between HR & IT in the critical moments surrounding the meeting itself.
